DEPARTMENT ORDER # 5, 2025-2026
Suspension of Andrew Johnson Camp #70
Brothers and Gentlemen of the Department,
- Whereas, On June 7, 2021, then Department Commander, David DuBrucq issued Department Order #2 2021-2022, suspending the Andrews Johnson Camp #70, Department of Tennessee with Mississippi, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War for failure to file an IRS Form 990 for three consecutive years. The Order went on to give Camp 70 a reasonable time period to act, after which should they fail to resolve these issues, they will be stricken from Department rolls and required to surrender their charter and all Camp property as required by the Constitution and Regulations of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.
- Whereas, The SUVCW National Computer system reveals that the camp was suspended on or about 5/31/2021, however, no Department Order was issued to confirm this.
- Therefore, by the authority vested in me as Commander of the Department of Tennessee with Mississippi of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, the National Constitution and Regulations (Chapter I Camps, Article 1 Formation, §15-17), it is hereby ordered as follows:
-
-
- Senior Vice Commander, Gary Moore, PCC to work with the leadership of the Camp to surrender all assets and have those assets transferred to the National Organization.
-
-
-
-
- This includes the Camp Charter,
- Financial Assets,
- Other tangible assets
- Senior Vice Commander, Gary Moore, PCC to also gain control of any existing electronic assets
-
-
- I would ask the Commanders and Brothers of Missionary Ridge Camp #63 and Army of Tennessee Camp #64 to extend fraternal relations to these Brothers, as those Camps are the most likely locations.
-
-
- That the Department Secretary/Treasurer, George Huttick, PDC and Camp Secretary / Treasurers assist with the creating of Form 4’s, 6’s, and 30’s as necessary to help retain these Brothers in the Order. We need to make sure paperwork does not lose us a Brother!
-
The loss of a Camp within our Department is a loss for all of us. The Order grows with us having healthy Camps with healthy leadership and active members. It takes all of us to join together to make our Camps and Department work and thrive.
So ordered this 5th day of May 2025
Chip Huffman,
Department Commander
Department of Tennessee
Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War
Attest: George Andrew Huttick, PDC
Department Secretary-Treasurer
Department of Tennessee
Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War
