Committee: Special Committee on National Encampment (DT–NE)

Department of Tennessee
Committee: Special Committee on National Encampment (DT–NE)
Date: July 14, 2016

Committee Members Present:
Downs
McReynolds
Jones

The Committee was convened via conference call between the members. Department Commander Michael Downs called the meeting to order at 2:00 p.m. (ET)

Brother Downs stated that the Department had neither the man power nor financial resources available to justify making a bid for a National Encampment at this time. Brothers McReynolds and Jones concurred in these sentiments. At this time, the current call for bids for venue host are for the 2020 event. Brother McReynolds noted that National JVC Mark Day had stated that a hosting Department would need $2000 minimum in upfront costs, while Brother Downs felt it would be more in the range of $4000 to $5000.

It was decided that Brother Downs would get the required information needed from the National Office to possibly make a bid on holding the 2021 National Encampment in the coming year. He would also try to gather more information at this year’s National Encampment in Springfield next month.

Brother Jones suggested a fund raiser to obtain the required seed money and listed several possible ways this could be done.

Two sites were proposed for a National Encampment, the Nashville/Franklin area and the Vicksburg area with a brief discussion of the advantages that each possibility offered.

The big questions were what exactly we would need to do as a Department to be able to hold a National Encampment and could we realistically complete the job.

The next meeting of the DT–NE Committee was tentatively set for September 15, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. (ET)
