From the William McTeer Camp #39

Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War

The William A. McTeer Camp #39 of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is extremely honored to announce the initiation of Brother John William Oliver Jr. Mr. Oliver’s father, John W. Oliver Sr., was a Civil War soldier who served with the Fourth Volunteer Tennessee Infantry from June 15, 1863 through August 2, 1865 with the rank of Private. The regiment saw service in central and east Tennessee during the time Private Oliver was on active duty. It is a very rare occasion that a “Real Son” is discovered, while in total there are only four known sons of Union Veterans alive at this time, and the McTeer Camp is very fortunate to have had Mr. Oliver select their camp to join. A special initiation program, where Mr. Oliver will be presented with his membership badge and a certificate of life membership in the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, is scheduled at the East Tennessee Historical Society on Sunday, September 18th at 2:30 PM. The public is invited to the program.
